OJAI, Calif. – Three of the four top-seeded singles and doubles players are still alive after day two of the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Championships, but some notable seeds were upset during the doubles round of 16 and quarterfinals. Semifinals for both singles and doubles competition begin Saturday morning at Libbey Park.
The day began with doubles play, where all ranked duos but one advanced to the quarterfinal round as UTAH’s Tereza Bekerova and Paige Miles upset the second-ranked Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr of CALIFORNIA. In the quarterfinal round, two more upsets took place at the hands of unranked teams. UCLA’s Courtney Dolehide and Chanelle Van Nguyen knocked off No. 3 Taylor Davidson and Ellen Tsay of STANFORD in the championships round to send two unranked teams to the semifinal round for Saturday. In the invitational, ARIZONA STATE’s Kassidy Jump and Joanna Smith upset the top-ranked duo of Callie Craig and Sarah Pham of Utah to move to the invitational semifinals.
In singles, two upsets marked the championship results as fifth-ranked Lynn Chi of Cal upset No. 4 Carol Zhao of Stanford and No. 6 Zoë Scandalis of USC defeated No. 2 Chanelle Van Nguyen of UCLA. Top-ranked Jennifer Brady of UCLA remains intact after defeating No. 7 Denise Starr in a tough battle. Joining in the semifinals will be Anett Schutting of California after Schutting beat Desirae Krawczyk of ASU. Invitational play saw four of the top five seeds advance to the semifinals.
The doubles semifinals will begin at 9 a.m. PT at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif., followed by the singles semifinals scheduled tentatively for 10:30 a.m. PT. Results can be found on pac-12.com.
