UCLA’s Jennifer Brady Wins Pac-12 Women’s Singles Title

OJAI, Calif. – UCLA’s Jennifer Brady was crowned the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Singles Champion while the duo of  Kaitlyn Christian and Giuliana Olmos claimed the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Doubles Championships on Sunday, concluding the Championships in Ojai.

Brady, who was selected in the championship draw as the No. 1 overall seed, lived up to the status as she downed Zoë Scandalis of USC. Scandalis, ranked sixth in the draw, came out to a strong start, picking up four points in the first set in a quick manner, but Brady bounced back and posted a 6-4 win in the first set and blanked Scandalis in the second, 6-0, for the win. It is the second-consecutive individual singles champion for the Bruins after Kyle McPhillips took home the title last year, and eighth overall for the Bruins.

In doubles play, the unranked duo of Christian and Olmos knocked off the top-ranked seed of Kristie Ahn and Carol Zhao in straight sets, defeating the STANFORD pair 6-3, 6-3 in the adapted format. Christian has now won three consecutive doubles titles with two different opponents, and is only the second player in tournament history to do so along with Alice Barnes of Stanford.

In invitational play, Giuliana Olmos of USC defeated Klara Fabikova of CALIFORNIA in singles play to claim the Pac-12 Women’s Singles Invitational tournament title. Olmos handled Fabikova in straight sets, winning the match 6-1, 6-2. The invitational doubles championship was a huge upset as Kassidy Jump and Joanna Smith knocked off the third-ranked duo of Scandalis and Brynn Boren of USC, 8-6. It was the duo’s third victory over a ranked opponent in the tournament.
