The Ojai Tennis Tournament is a wonderful and unique tradition dating back to the first event in 1896. It is put on each year by the Ojai Valley Tennis Club, whose charitable mission is the promotion of interest in tennis and physical fitness as well as the provision of recreational facilities for young people.

Tradition of Tea & Tennis
Dating Back to 1896

The history of The Ojai really dates back to 1887 when Sherman Day Thacher came to Ojai to become a farmer and grow citrus. After building his stone house on 160 acres of land in the East End of the valley, he soon learned that he would require some financial assistance to survive, and so started tutoring students on the ranch, then called Casa de Piedra.

The Recent News

‘The Ojai’ really fired us up to play tennis and to be good enough to play there someday. …… The whole scene there was so magical for us. And when we started playing there as each year passed we had more and more local fans coming out to watch us and root for us. We were so proud to win titles there and still have great memories of ‘The Ojai.’
